I won't even mention Bananarama, just too processed for me and the Bangles is pushing it...
I guess I forgot The Three Degrees who were pretty popular in the '70s, but then there were so many disco types like the LaBelles and Sister Sledge... I'm thinking more rock anyway.

How about Cradle & Honey/Honey LTD? The latter is more pop. Cradle spawned from the Pleasure Seekers.

I don't think Bananarama was too processed; I think the singing was pretty raw, and not in a good way. My recollection is that they were actually just regular people (in fact ex punks) who tried to be a pop group because everyone was doing it. Trouble was they had no talent.

I only have Bananarama's Shy Boy single. There's something in the production as with a lot of Bangles that somewhat ruins them for me, and yet I can dig The Human League or Thomas Dolby... never was much for Spandau Ballet or Tears For Fears though.
I've only vaguely heard of Shop Assistants, I ought to investigate further... If The Luv'd Ones or Bittersweets of the '60s were in the running they'd blow most of these later outfits aside really.

only vaguely heard of Shop Assistants, I ought to investigate further All seven songs on the Shopping Parade EP and the Safety Net 12" are sublime. The LP is blah except for one or two tracks... ... including What a Way to Die, the only 60s garagey track -- a cover of the Pleasure Seekers 1965 original, which apparently was Suzi Quatro's first band. The shoppies own stuff (the early good stuff) was a mashup of VU, Ramones and the movie Gregory's Girl (or rather, the 80s band Altered Images, which also featured Clare Grogan).

The Marine Girls were a similar band from Brighton.

Pauline Murray & The Invisible Girls Fatal Microbes(Honey Bane...later recorded for Crass recs) Prag Vec The Flowers Animals & Men Sarah Goes Pop Kleenex/Liliput Lora Logic/Essential Logic Silex Pistols(straight up French pop-punk) Delta 5 Girls At Our Best
loads more

Silex Pistols(straight up French pop-punk) That's the name of the song. The band is Too Much and it's not totally clear if it's 100% french, 100% belgian, or a bit of both. I like the bside better, 'Photo Photo'.
