Hello all. First post here, so please excuse any noobishness I may display.
I'm looking for a copy of a Longhorn Records 45 called The Lifer. It was written by Al Gliva and recorded in Marquette State Prison in Marquette, Michigan in 1962, and the song was used on a forum comp called Music From Life's Other Side.
I'm looking for a copy - ideally a 45, but digital will work - to replace the 45 that has been in my family since the mid-'60s, and has been rather badly damaged. The reason I'm so interested is that the guitar player on the record, Clyde Stanley, worked for my grandfather after he was released from prison in '64. While he worked in St. Louis, Clyde gave my grandfather a guitar and a banjo that he made, and which I now own.
Clyde went back to Marquette in '68 for the killing of his girlfriend and her husband. He died in prison in 1981, the year I was born.
My ultimate goal is to record the song with my country band.
Any help, or leads, or any information on the song will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks -Alex
