Still going through Riot On the Sunset Strip: RnR's Last Stand in Hollywood. Really like the pictures & tidbits about that lively time in the music scene.
Also, I always read through a book of poetry that my friend gave me at a certain period in my life. It's called "A Heap o' Livin' by Edgar A. Guest. My copy is from 1916 & he signed it in 1922. The script is so beautiful I wish I could write like that. When it was given to me it was bookmarked at "It's a curious notion folks hold in their pride, that their souls should never be tested or tried." There are times I need to revisit that passage.

The Last Great Sea by Terry Glavin about the history and pre-history of the north Pacific ocean and coasts. I've only had it for over two years! Music-wise I read All Yesterday's Parties edited by Clinton Heylin which collects pretty much everything published about the Velvet Underground while they were still performing.

Just finsished "Will You Miss Me WHen I'm Gone? The Carter Family and Their Legacy in American Music" That reminds me I wanted to read that myself! I found a multipage reminiscence by June Carter in an old Western Music Roundup magazine from the '60s and it was really cool; lots of photos and names to the faces in them. I should scan the pages in sometime...

Right now the new issue of Ugly Things has my attention; at 224 pages you could say it's practically a book.
Once I'm done with that I'll start on "Like, Misunderstood," the "autobiographical novel" written by Misunderstood singer Rick Brown with Mike Stax himself.

Just finsished "Will You Miss Me WHen I'm Gone? The Carter Family and Their Legacy in American Music" That reminds me I wanted to read that myself! It was a good long overview. I think there's room for another book that goes into more depth on the years of the Original Carter Family, 1927-1943-ish, including the border radio years. If anyone knows of a good book about border radio, actually, that would be cool to check out. Hope this isn't too far OT for garage punk. A lot of good ideas for reading material on this thread/....

In the process of getting through "Going Down Jericho Road". Its about the Memphis garbage strike, you know the one that bought Dr. King to Memphis where he was killed.
