Animals & Men are fantastic ,even their new stuff..maybe i`ll try to get them on here to answer a few questions(presuming there would be interest).
some of the bands mentioned in the `All Girl`group thread may be of interest to you.there is a ton of this stuff we call post-punk that can be ploughed through at the great blog Mutant Sounds. their `Alphabetical Uploads of Whacked Out Singles` series of downloads are essential aswell as the `Obscure DIY Singles` series.also ,ofcourse the commercially available Messthetics CD`s.
on this note i just picked up a copy of the legendary `Wierd Noise` EP on Fuck Off records for very cheap! this contains the great Instant Automatons,012 & Danny & The Dressmakers.

There's a great series of comps called Messthetics; I'd say that was the best place to start looking for bands like this; it was on one of their comps that I heard Animals And Men for the first time. www.hyped2death.com to check those out. I'm not sure how close they get to the Animals And Men sound, but my absolute favorite arty + rockin' postpunk band is The Glaxo Babies. A doom-y 12" 45, three or four 7" that were rockin/skronky in various degrees, and two lp.s that I don't remember much about except that at the time I didn't like them very well. All their singles were ace, though. Looking through my sale-catalog, I see a bunch of bands I liked that fit into that post-punk niche: Art Objects, Bush Tetras, Dogma Cats,, The Fridges, maybe The Mothmen... Check out the Messthetics liner notes, that's sure to give you enough info to move forward... Cheers -- Hugo M. pmadreenter@yahoo.com pocamadreenterprises.bravehost.com

I've been listening to "Beginning of the End of the World: Brasilian Post-Punk 1982-88" from As Mercenerias. It's fantastic stuff! Wish I understood Portuguese though.

What I meant with the Animals and men feel is that I'm looking for melodic and/or heartful post-punk, not clinical experimental things a la Glenn Branca...
I don't know if that makes any sense in this part of the forum, but is there a kind of new-wave equivalent to moody sixties garage rock ?

I'm looking for melodic and/or heartful post-punk Maybe like the Smiths? Or does it have to be more obscure, or punkier?
