Last night something happened to me that hasn't happened in 40 some years. Me, Terry and Gary (Tonto) met in downtown Grand Ledge at one of the local pubs. God Terry looked good. I didn't know he was coming up from Florida. He just showed up and called so I called Gary and we met. Had a ball remembering old times. A bunch of guys and gals just stood around our table not believing that 3 of us were sitting there. It was so cool. They just kept playing our cd on the jukebox over and over. I hope to see him at least once more before he returns home. Last night was the closest thing to a T&TR Reunion there'll ever be.

I'll get Terry to sign on here. Always good for a laugh. But, his visit is really bittersweet. Terry's cancer has spread to his lymph nodes. To Terry this visit is kinda his last trip. I don't know what the prognosis is because I didn't want to spend what time I had with him talking about that. He looks really good and you wouldn't know what he's struggling with but you all know how quickly that can change. One thing I will never do, though, is give up hope and I hope none of you do either.
Damn, I wish we could play together again one more time.

Geez, doesn't anybody post on this board anymore? What good would it do to have Terry sign on here? There has to be some topic worth discussing.

Was there any band Tonto consciously tried to copy in the sixties? Checkmate, No, not really. Of course, we tried to play every song we played close to the original artist but with a flavor of our own as well. Sure, there were certain songs and artists we just didn't like, but would cover them the best we could if asked. In the early years our gigs went from High School Dances to formals like Proms to weddings and Battles of the Bands. You had to have a very diverse playlist. Tom

Did you ever have to play smaltz or Lawrence Welk tunes for the older crowd at weddings? Checkmate, Well, we never played L. W. , but we played a tune or two like it so we could play it if asked. That was all part of the game of playing or not playing. You don't build a following if you're not playing in front of people. Of all ages, too. You know that it wasn't all glamoris and fun. Sometimes it was work. But, I loved every minute of it. And, It wasn't just teenagers who liked Rock and Roll and The Beatles. Tom

you could always make do with a couple of upturned biscuit tins Yeah, that's how to get that real 60's sound. Hey, we could call ourselves the Biscuit Tins. Retro, man. Bang, Bang.
