Besides wikipedia, what is the best way to find out the exact day a record was released?

Learyfan,
That's an interesting question. It's something I've really never thought about. I guess it depends on how you define "release". Is it the studio assigned date? Is it the date you receive thr records back from being pressed/ Or, the date it is available for sale or use on the radio?
In our case, we were responsible for our records distribution to stores and radio stations. So, is that released? What if we had gotten the boxes of records from the pressing company, but decided never to do anything with them? I'm pretty sure both the studio and and record presser would consider the record released.
It must be the recording date as assigned by the studio. Less and less, anymore, are recorded but unreleased records show up. When they do, somebody determines a date. I wouldn't want our record "Little Boy Blue" to get a date of 2010 because we had decided not to do anything with the pressed records back then. It probably goes by the date on the label. Just my guess.

I'm just talking strictly about the date that the record was available for sale. There must be some website that has that information.

Thanks man. Something like that, except with albums from the US as well, would be really good.
