still haven`t listened to The Shop Assistants properly. a friend has an LP and is always pulling good tracks from it. The Marine Girls were a similar band from Brighton. theres tons of this early eighties female fronted UK/euro stuff thats great: Pauline Murray & The Invisible Girls Fatal Microbes(Honey Bane...later recorded for Crass recs) Prag Vec The Flowers Animals & Men Sarah Goes Pop Kleenex/Liliput Lora Logic/Essential Logic Silex Pistols(straight up French pop-punk) Delta 5 Girls At Our Best loads more .... it could be time for a comp maybe? anyone interested in contributing? Yeah, I really love Liliput and Animals and Men from the songs I've heard. Those two are on my shopping list. For a US contribution try Pylon. They're kind of Delta 5-esque. They have some good tunes.

Pylon was three guys and one gal though... but everything by them is worth having... I have Gyrate, Chomp and the first 7"er. They seemed to be the forefront of the whole 10,000 Maniacs/R.E.M. stream-of-consciousness songs you can dance to scene...
I probably know of single tracks by groups that are all-girl without knowing they were all-girl, so a possible comp list would be educational for me.

Yeah, true. Only the singer was a girl. Same goes for Animals & Men I think. And Delta 5's guitar player was a guy I believe. So I thought they might be fair game.

Ten points for mentioning Kleenex/Liliput, but they were 75% or 100% female, not just female-led. Liliput's "Split" is one of my top fave songs, it's like a no-wave version of rockin' uptempo doowop. Harakiri bow-wow! I'll have to give it some thought n see if I can remember anything else that's ultra... The Dolly Mixture never seem to get mentioned much and that's too bad. It's also a shame their recorded output is still un-available on CD.

Say, what do the other Mo-dettes songs sound like? I've only heard "White Mice". I can't understand a word she says in that song. Really catchy though.

White Mice has a chorus something like 'don't be nervous don't be limp, no girl wants to date a wimp'. Their one album was titled The Story So Far, and there were a bunch of singles with Masochistic Opposite, Dark Park Creeping, Tonight and Paint It Black.

The Erasers. Never heard of them before now, but they appeared in the film The Foreigner, during a scene where the Cramps beat up a guy in a club. I saw this clip on Youtube and they look like an all girl or mostly girl group. Did they make any records?

One CD would've been enough (it's a double set). i have the `Wake Up` 12" which you could classify as old stuff. this is more rooted in the xray spex sound....things start going a bit punky funky(urgh) on the Pedigree Charm LP i have, although the song Brute Fury is a corker. this tendency for higher production/music virtues shows on later Slits,Raincoats,Delta 5,Lora Logic albums...and Poly Styrenes solo record. the 80s got pretty gross in that department. just look at Mick Huknall, once in a great band `The Frantic Elevators`, then simply red.
