I would really like to see more people open up to the idea of a wider margin of and for candidates outside the democrat and republican parties. As I'm learning myself, it's always surprising to me that a good majority of people don't even know who all is out there to choose from. Sometimes I think we could be missing a good thing because they're not even present at the debates. Isn't it odd to have an open forum setting which allows information and their platforms to reach people, but yet only certain candidates are allowed to participate? They should be blowing the roof off that place! It's encouraging that third party and independent numbers grow every year. I've found that the mentality of a 'wasted vote' to someone outside the major parties does not sit well with me. I think of it as more of an eye opener to these people (the major parties) who should be able to hold their own in the races from the time they start campaigning until the time the election ends. Two parties to choose from is way too narrow for me and knowing that we don't really have a true, popular vote democracy makes it even worse. Still, I vote for who I think will do the best job according to the ideals that are similar to mine. It's hard to tell, until we see action, who is only blowing smoke up our asses and who really presents and maintains a by the people for the people credo. Lots of change and reform is needed in many, most, if not all areas of government for our nation and I'd like to see someone turn it around for the better.

Dennis Kucinich or Bill Bradley... what was wrong with either of them? Why do people want either Clinton or a really inexperienced new guy? I don't get it myself. I would actually choose McCain over Hilary though, she is way too bought and paid for at this point. I can only figure lots of people thought they would make history with the first woman or first black guy or something like that. I would expect to vote Nader again, I'd have been Dukakis, Perot, Perot, Nader, Nader to this point. Like I've said, this could have been the election for a viable third party to finally emerge, too bad...

I've watched the third party debates. No thanks. Kucinich is a kook, Nader is a kook, Perot is a fuckin looney. To me it's almost comical that anyone could have a hard time choosing between the candidates at this point. McCain wants to keep the Bush tax cuts for the rich, and wants to keep us in Iraq. Those two things, though hardly exclusive, make up the main impetus for the complete and absolute mess we now find ourselves in. History repeats itself. THe Republicans drag us down into an economic mire, and the Democrats drag us out. Then, once people become comfortable again, they forget the lessons learned and either vote Republican or become apathetic. It's been happening since the Great Depression. Unfortunately, this time people may be too stupid/apathetic to realize - what with the existence of reality TV, ipods, and messageboards.

Becca, do you really think McCain isn't bought and paid for? McCain has been getting a free ride from the mainstream media for so long now, which is why the perception of the man as a "maverick" has been allowed to somehow become truth, which it really is not. Also, the mainstream media is very good at manufacturing outrage where democratic candidates are concerned, allowing the Republican front runner to emerge more or less unscathed.
If McCain does get in, expect four more years of the same, obviously. If Clinton or Obama get in, they're going to have so much shit to clean up from these last eight years that it's highly doubtful they'll be able to accomplish much in the way of their own agenda. Also, don't expect bipartisanship to be the name of the game anytime soon.

Another thing that bothers me is this campaigning and donating towards that. It is utterly ridiculous to spend so much money on this kind of stuff for such a long period of time. If you'd like to see some fund raising money streams check out www.opensecrets.org. It's pretty interesting, especially seeing where the contributions are coming from. Big thing to keep in mind for later or to compare against a candidate win and see who has been pocketed. Candidates like Kucinich(D) and Ron Paul(R) will always be downplayed by the media (if reported at all), even when people polls show they are leaders in numbers. Kucinich, who has since dropped out of the race, was invited by MSNBC to participate in debate, but then received an un-invite letter outlining criteria he didn't meet to participate. Fox News hosted a debate in South Carolina which Ron Paul participated in. Shortly after a text poll was taken he led all candidates in numbers only to not be invited back for the next Fox News debate. It's only fair to have equal time for all candidates so people can make their best choice from all options. Another issue I have is the ability for the electronic voting machines to be hacked and problematic. Many states are already getting rid of them. As a voter, to see a machine go blank, break down and not function properly makes you wonder if your vote even got counted. I'd prefer a paper ballot where there is also room for error, but a better trail to track corruption. I'm considering participating by absentee ballot strictly to not use those machines.

PS: mccain is a fucking idiot. dumbass said twice iran is funding al quaeda, which are shia and iran sunni, theyre enemies of each other. i dont even have a problem nessecarily with the war continuing, but not in the same way it has been, where the repubs neocon buddies get all the big $$ contracts.
mccains comments mean one of a few things. 1- he's too stupid to know the difference between sunni and shia, and therefore dangerously ignorant, or, 2- he's a liar, trying to make connections where there are none, like the repubs did with al quaeda and iraq. fuck mccain and his war loving bush backing 2 faced ass...........

Bill Bradley hasn't run since 2000 . I supported him then and think he would have made a good president . He just didn't have the "excitement factor" to get the nomination .
