I remember reading an article on The Pilgrims and their "Teaching Youth The Truth" album. I didn't know there was enough of these bands to make several comps. This is probably something I should look into since I live in the "Bible Belt" here in the US.

i'd like to know about the "several comps". there's the pilgrims cd & that gospel forum comp i did. there are other bands but don't think there's enough strong material for more comps. that must have been eddie boyes from the crossbeats they talked to. his crossbeats site is an excellent place to look at for photos & he's got a bunch of downloads of his band the crossbeats & also the witnesses. i'd highly recommend downloading the witnesses . thats pretty lame if its snippets of songs & not whole songs. oh it might be worth your while to fine the joystrings-well seasoned lp. its pretty good too i'll have a listen to this show when i find a place that has a real player

Ed....`several comps` meaning the forum comp and compilation of Pilgrims material.
i`ve only been aware of this christian beat stuff the last year or so.i`ve picked up a few things, The Proclaimers, Envoys,Four Kingsmen. i listened to an LP the other day of a band (the name escapes me now) but the material was weak for the price.saw the Pilgrims Lp in a charity shop (tho` they were selling it for a pretty penny).
i think its pheasable to suggest there is uncomped stuff out there(in the UK), but like you say the quality may not be enough to warrant exposure on a garage forum. never the less i will keep my eyes peeled.there is a single i am purchasing tommorrow, maybe i`ll post it up here.

Were the Pilgrims any good? I've only read about 'em. If I remember they were compared the Them?

...and it sucks. No Discernable fuzz, some OK organ on some cuts but it's more in Lawrence Welk territory than anything - AVOID. There's this other guy though, time for a new thread...

The Crossbeats' "Crazy Mixed Up Generation" from '67 is a very good LP in the style; nice late Merseybeat vibe to it. If it's heavier Xian sounds you're after, the Out Of Darkness LP from 1970 is one to seek out.
The Joy Strings "Well Seasoned" was issued in the US by Epic and should not be too expensive an LP to track down.
A few other good ones:
The Sharons: Someone To Turn To - From Scotland with a rather primitive vibe to it in terms of the bands' performance as well as the production.
The Crusaders: Make A Joyful Noise With Drums And Guitars - LA area band; they added a female vocalist and became Love Exchange.
One to avoid:
The Revellers - Irish Beat band whose LP was issued on Columbia UK; this one's pretty lame from start to finish.

the pilgrims just had one 45 no lp mmm, i can`t remember what it was , but it had a straight pic of the band/light background and it was expensive. still debating wether to buy that Crossbeats LP. was looking at it today and have listened to it not being particularly impressed. all The Envoys material really stands out for me in this genre.when i first heard `the door` it was quite a revelation(not a religous one)
