John Ylvisaker, unsung (christian) GARAGE KING
« Thread Started on Feb 14, 2008, 12:10am »

So who knows John Ylvisaker? His albums "Cool Livin" from '67 and "A Love Song" from '68 are EASILY two of the finest garage albums ever, I'd definitely put them in my top 10 at least. Amazing singer with astounding emotional range and style, sort of a cross between whatever news caster you'd care to name and Ken Nordine, incredible lyrics too, sure the guy has a huge amount of "faith" but who cares, we all have some sort of god and if he/she/it inspires great art like that which comes from Mr. Ylvisaker, it's cool. Does anyone know of any 45's by him? Anyone heard the ULTRA rare live LP from around the same time? Anything?

the first lp reminds me of perry como backed by the bohemian vendetta. who cares for the city or whatec=ver its called is excellent. the berets mass for peace lp is on this label too.
there's another band called 'le generation de jesus thats first lp is pretty decent.

At one time I had the "Praise The Lord In Many Voices" lp, live recording of a concert with Ylvis and the Medical Mission Sisters, that one didn't excite me at all... If Cool Livin' and Follow Me truly are good records, I'll be eager to "get around to them" one of these days maybe.

The two live albums are "Don't cut the Baby in Half" and "Live at a house warming for Fritzie" I think, the 1st one is possibly before the two albums I mentioned though it's very rare and no one seems to know for sure. It apparently does have some versions of songs that were on Cool Livin'/A Love Song. I'd be really surprised if it's great but I'd still love to hear it. Heavenly Grooves has both LP's I mentioned available for download, I'd love to hear reactions from people who are hearing them for the 1st time!

Not sure which LP is from the St. Louis radio station. La Generation De Jesus - know any where I can get that Ed?

i think its a st louis station is a double lp with other bands & supposedly the sound for the other groups is bad. la generacion de jesus , try finding a mexican religious store in portland , i know for sure they have the first three lps on cd. there's also a live clip of them on you tube.
the john ylvisaker stuff you have to take with a grain of salt. they have their moments just like other lps. most christian lps are like this. theres also that higher than you lp (?)that has a cool live organ instrumental. once again has some good songs amongst the duds.
